Safe Way Maritime History
Since beginning business on May 29th, 1994, Safe Way Maritime has provided reliable transportation between the mainland of Honduras and the Bay Island of Roatan. After operating from Coxen Hole for 12 years, Safe Way Maritime moved to Dixon Cove in 2006. The new facility is easily accessible with its central location between several of the main towns on Roatan. The facility offers plenty of parking space, unlike the old curbside location in Coxen Hole.
Safe Way Maritime has upgraded yachts twice. The first yacht, the M/V Tropical, carried only 115 passengers. The travel time between Roatan and La Ceiba was 1 hour and 45 minutes. The second yacht was the M/V Tropical II, with a capacity of 365 passengers and a travel time of 1 hour and 30 minutes.
The newest yacht, the Galaxy Wave, went into service in August of 2006. It carries 460 passengers. The Galaxy Wave is a 152 foot catamaran featuring four 1825 horsepower engines with jet propulsion. The yacht was designed by Incatcrowther of Australia and built in Louisiana by Gulf Craft.
